The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
December is always a time to remember in San Saba, Texas. Christmas brings out the best in our small town, and even though 2020 has brought more than its fair share of challenges, we still know how to celebrate Christmas.
We Love a Parade
One of the longest-standing Christmas traditions is the San Saba Lighted Christmas Parade. The parade features cars, floats, and rides that travel through downtown San Saba to kickoff the holiday season and spread cheer to the community. The Parade is happening on December 12th this year at 6:30pm in downtown San Saba. There will be plenty of space along the parade route for social distancing and staying safe. Highlights of past parades have included lawnmowers decorated as Christmas trees, and heavy-duty dump trucks decorated to look like Tonka trucks, not to mention all of the local community groups and children’s organizations that get to walk in the parade.
The Reason for the Season
A nice addition to this year’s celebration is a nativity scene that will be placed on the Courthouse Lawn. In years past, a live nativity has been performed, however, with new restrictions in place, a change was made that still allows us to keep the proper focus on the Christmas season. This display will be a beautiful addition to the overall Christmas experience in San Saba.
The Lights at Mill Pond Park
When it comes to Christmas, there are not many better experiences in the Texas Hill Country than the lights display at Mill Pond Park. The display is lit every year on Thanksgiving night and continues to light up the night from dusk to 10pm through January 6th. The display covers a large portion of the park, with tunnels of lights, dancing trees, and the entire display is choreographed to music. The display can be walked or driven through and has been named one of the best Christmas Lights displays in Texas. On December 12th, families can get a Christmas Gift Bag from the San Saba County Ministerial Alliance for their children. The gift bags will be distributed from the parking lot at The Father’s House Youth Center from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Sipping on a Smaller Scale
Normally, the annual Sip’ n Stroll would be the centerpiece of the Christmas Extravaganza, but this year the event has been postponed. However, Wedding Oak Winery is still hosting a smaller event called the Stroll, Sit & Sip, which will be from 1-5pm on Saturday, December 12th. The event is limited to only 70 tickets but will feature award-winning wines, live music, munchies, and a good time! Tickets for this event are available here.
Santa is Here….I Know Him!
What Christmas celebration would be complete without a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus? If you need that iconic Christmas photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus, this is the perfect opportunity! They will be taking pictures for free with children at Harry’s Boots from 9am-4pm on Saturday the 12th in the Children’s section.
