Spring Events in San Saba
The sun is out, and our Springtime events are in full swing. Our parks are green, the rivers are flowing, the sunshine abounds, and we’re finding every reason that we can In addition to our great outdoor space, parks and our monthly golf tournaments, we have a ton of great organized events coming up in the next month.
April 28 & 29 | The Catkins Ball, a fundraiser benefitting San Saba’s economic development and tourism endeavors, is a beloved San Saba tradition. The ball is named for the catkin flower – a stringy green bud which resembles fluffy caterpillars and descends from thousands of pecan trees that make San Saba the “Pecan Capital of the World.” A canopy of catkins in Risien Park is the setting for our posh annual fundraiser. The 2017 theme is Buckles & Bling, a balance between glitz and comfort. Curious about how to mix black tie with buckles + bling? Check out a few of our favorite looks.
For tickets, check the website. The fun kicks off on Friday night (April 28) with a guest reception from 6 PM to 8 PM at Wedding Oak Winery. Saturday’s festivities begin at 5:30 PM with Cocktail Hour in Risien Park. Dinner starts at 7 PM, followed by a live auction at 8 PM and dancing at 9 PM.
May 3 | The San Saba Farmers Market returns for the season on May 3. From 8 AM to noon pick fresh produce, artisan foodstuffs and more in the San Saba square. The farmers market will be held weekly on Wednesdays. Free, open to the public.
May 6 | Head to the square on Saturday, May 6, from 8 AM to 2 PM for Pecan Capital Trade Day featuring artisan crafts, goods and yummy treats from local small businesses. Free, open to the public.
May 13 | Junk in the Trunk is our thrice-annual citywide garage sale kicking off on Saturday, May 13 (other dates are July 8 and September 9), from 8 AM through noon. Come one, come all to the San Saba square and sell your goods — the only rules are that nothing can touch the ground and must be sold from your trunk or truck bed. Any unsold goods can be donated to Shared Blessings at the end of the day so you can head back to your uncluttered abode. Free, open to the public.
May 19 & 20 | Sounds of Shopping is the first ever music shopping experience combining live music, shopping, and treats in San Saba. The two-day event starts Friday, May 19, at 4 PM at the Purple Chandelier’s new location. Saturday’s tunes start at Alamo Pecan at noon and take you through downtown before ending at Bar D Brewhouse. At each stop along the way enjoy browsing unique products, food, drinks, giveaways and live music (each stop is an hour). Free, open to the public.
May 27 | Our popular Splash Day is the highlight of memorial day weekend in the Texas Hill Country. On Saturday, May 27, a citywide bash at Mill Pond Park is the season opener of Mill Pond’s Sunny Beach. The day-long, family-friendly event offers the ever-exciting cardboard boat races, fireworks, live music, a carnival, and pedal boat, kayak, canoe, and tube rentals. Free, open to the public.
