San Saba Earns Coveted Awards for Beautification Efforts Lead by Keep San Saba Beautiful

Visit San Saba is excited to share news from Keep Texas Beautiful. In March, we learned that San Saba has once again earned top rewards for the efforts of our Keep San Saba Beautiful volunteers.

Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) has recognized San Saba as one of 10 winners of the 2017 Governor’s Community Achievement Awards (GCAA) for their outstanding overall efforts to keep their communities beautiful. The award is one of the most coveted annual environmental and community improvement honors in Texas. San Saba received first place in its population category, earning the 2017 Governor’s Community Achievement Award which grants the city a landscape award of $110,000. This is the second landscape award for San Saba. In 2012, we received our first Governor’s Community Achievement Award and used the improvement funds to improve our beloved courthouse on the downtown square.

San Saba also earned the 2017 Keep Texas Beautiful Government Award for a city under 30,000 and the 2017 Keep Texas Beautiful Gold Star Affiliate Award. Lastly, San Saba received the Sustained Award of Excellence 2014-2017. The awards will be formally presented during the 50th Annual Keep Texas Beautiful Conference June 12 – 14, 2017, in San Antonio.

Keep San Saba Beautiful was formed in 2009 to both inspire and educate people on the everyday actions they can take to improve and beautify our community. The award-winning affiliate of Keep Texas Beautiful and Keep America Beautiful, is a City of San Saba Commission lead by eight board members who are appointed by the city council. The group is a volunteer-based group that promotes events to combat litter, reduce waste, beautify public spaces, and educates students on how their actions impact our surroundings. Ongoing projects include the maintenance of downtown planters, citywide cleanups, recycling competitions, and school education lessons. We also have quarterly city-wide cleanups like the Keep San Saba Beautiful “Don’t Mess With Texas” that occurred this past Saturday.

These awards are only made possible by the fine folks who take the time to clean, beautify, educate and promote community involvement to better our surroundings and environment. Thank you for your efforts to Keep San Saba Beautiful.
